The adrenal glands are glands which have triangle shapes which are over the kidney and are responsible for how the body responses to stress. They produce various chemicals and hormones in the management of stress that is essential for life. The definition of stress is any disturbance that triggers the stress response that takes place through different stages. The first stage is the alarm stage and the secretion of a number of hormones happens that can result in a level of heart rate that is increased, an elevated blood pressure, and alertness. Cortisol is a stress hormone that is emitted in the alarm stage. When cortisol elevates leads to the production of a response of stress that is short term and immediate.
Levels of cortisol that are high can be increased in many people and are in charge of a number of properties that are life-sustaining for the adrenal glands. Over time, the levels of cortisol that are high results in psychological changes and diseases that are connected to chronic stress. Symptoms of adrenal fatigue may be given by a person who wakes up tired, has to depend on caffeine to get through the day, craves sweets, and has trouble with sleeping. Most of the times, the people have a history of skipping meals and have a diet filled with carbohydrates that are refined and additives that are synthetic.

Adrenal fatigue happens when the body goes through stress for a period of time which is prolonged. While the adrenal glands are working properly, they produce cortisol that helps in regulating things such as the immune system and blood pressure. Chronic stress brings about a degree of cortisol that is raised and the disturbance of the generation of different hormones. Eventually, the adrenal glands will be exhausted, and not able to function at optimal levels even under conditions that are not stressful. During an adrenal fatigue period, testing of the conventional medical laboratory of adrenal hormones shows results that are normal.
